Creativity Exercise: United Wayward

What's wrong with this picture?

Leslie found the mistake ... giving us today's exercise and two lessons ...

Lesson #1: Proofread, proofread, proofread. Then have someone else proof it again. Then, and only then, print 80 gazillion copies to be distributed around the country.

Lesson #2: It's not brain surgery. Editing errors rarely kill. And if there's one thing we're all United in, it's this ... we all make mistakes.

Amen to both of those lessons! And I've made as many mistakes as anyone. Having someone proofread who has NOT been close to the project is best of all!

Editing mistake that happened at a company I worked for: An advertisement went through review of about 10 people. The company's phone number was wrong -- customers who called got a sex line instead. And an almost mistake -- a picture of board members was photoshopped and somehow one of the men ended up with 6 fingers.

Wow ... was that a mistake or a purposeful act? Gotta wonder. Or maybe I've become a cynic. (It's possible.) Good reminder though: The best way to check phone numbers in printed materials before publication is the old-fashioned way. Call the number! I don't know what you do re: the six-fingered man ... :-)
