Happy Halloween!

You know what's really scary? How easy it is to overlook the good stuff that surrounds us -- especially with all the nastiness in the daily news.

I don't want to miss the good stuff -- and I don't want you to, either.

As we wind our way toward Thanksgiving, I'm going to post about little things that add up to one grateFULL Jan. This list will not include the biggies -- family, friends, health, all that. We're talking about items, moments, what have you, that might seem insignificant. But they're not.

For example: pens. (I did check to make sure I spelled pens correctly, because one letter makes a huge difference.*)

It may surprise you, but I have never owned an expensive pen. I've written with everything from fountain pens to rollerballs, but I've never spent a chunk of change on a pen. That said, I LOVE finding a pen that fits my hand just right. I have small hands, and I like thin pens that glide on the paper. My current favorite is a freebie from a local business.

Sometimes, the best things in life are free.

People rarely know what this is -- it's an inkwell.
