Creative Query: Print is Not Dead
Here's a query I ask now and then -- and I'm always interested in the answers. What are you reading? My husband gave me a poetry collection for the holidays -- the best of American poetry, complete with a CD of the poets reading their works. I generally don't like to be read to, but poetry is an exception.

1) Reading? Your blog at 4:30 a.m. from the 23rd floor of a condo looking out over Michigan Avenue in snowy Chicago. Wasn't supposed to be here, but I must be for some reason. Also reading a lot of Twitter comments and blogs (i.e., chrisbrogan.com - recommended) in the new year to start commenting more in other places.
2) Did get a book for Christmas - "The Encyclopedia of Immaturity - How to Never Grow Up" from Klutz. You can find it at http://www.klutz.com/catalog/product/7500. Seriously though, haven't really spent much time with it yet.
3) Audio books are okay, but prefer someone "presenting" their material vs. just reading it.
That's all from Chicago, where some people do get up to read your blog right when it's published!

I read Little Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner (author of In Her Shoes) while we were on vacation. Good beach read.
Didn't receive any books for Christmas. I've been collecting book lists so I can reload my library holds list. Two I'm excited to get: The Road Home by Rose Tremain and The Given Day by Dennis Lehane (he wrote Mystic River)
I do like going to readings. Much prefer reading books to myself rather than having them read to me.
I'm in various stages of reading these books: The Shack (William Young), Three Cups of Tea (Greg Mortenson), and unChristian (David Kinnamon). For Christmas I received Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day (Hertzberg) and Annie Leibovitz at Work (Random House). Need I mention that my bedside table is just a little crowded? :-) And I don't like to be read to; I'm such a visual person that I prefer to see the words on the page.
So Jan, where's your list?
Leslie, I saw a story on Greg Mortenson on CBS' Sunday Morning and he is very inspiring. Let us know what you think of the book once you get into it. I believe Greg is making an appearance/doing a reading in KC in February.
Oh, Angela, he would be very interesting to hear! I'm about halfway through the book at it's very good. His life is fascinating and the things he's accomplished are indeed inspiring.

I hesitate to admit my list ... I'm still not finished with "A Prayer for Owen Meany," which I started months ago. Also reading several poetry books I received over the holidays, and a book I'll mention on the blog -- I think tomorrow -- a collection of essays by Sarah Vowell.
My favorite gift book this year was from Mary. She went online (I think to the Cooking Light site), and created a recipe book that includes my favorite recipes, and a number of yummy treats from Cooking Light. It's called "Mom's Favorite Recipes" and has a place of honor in the kitchen.
