Creative Inspiration: Langston Hughes

It seems an appropriate day ...

I, Too
by Langston Hughes

I, too, sing America.
I am the darker brother.
They send me to eat in the kitchen
When company comes,
But I laugh,
And eat well,
And grow strong.

Tomorrow,
I'll be at the table
When company comes.
Nobody'll dare
Say to me,
"Eat in the kitchen,"
Then.

Besides,
They'll see how beautiful I am
And be ashamed--

I, too, am America.

Beautiful poem! Thank you for sharing. I'm not sure I'll be able to move away from the TV today. Want to see every historic moment.

This is great and very meaningful, Jan, isn't it?
And i'm very hopeful about this big change! What about you?

Hi all! I've been out of town for a week ... and missed all the festivities on TV today, but can't wait to watch clips tonight. I am very hopeful re: the nation uniting for positive change -- I do have hope!

Well, hope and fear aren't all that far apart ...
